What is a turntable truck?

This makes them highly manoeuvrable, even on challenging surfaces.

What are turntable trucks used for?

Turntable trucks are typically used in warehouses, workshops, factories, building sites, outdoor events and yards, to transport a wide range of heavy loads safely and effectively. This includes boxes, crates, furniture, machinery and building materials. Due to their large wheels and turntable steering system, turntable trucks offer a more effective alternative to a platform truck or sack truck in challenging environments like building sites.

What types of turntable trolleys do you offer?

We offer a wide range of turntable trolleys, with a great choice of weight capacities, platform dimensions and extra features.

Heavy duty platform trucks, such as our Industrial 400kg Turntable Truck with 1200 x 600mm Plywood Base are capable of handling very heavy loads. Most of our flatbed trucks are industrial heavy duty models, to ensure reliability.

We also more compact models, such as the Matador 250kg Rough Terrain Turntable Truck. This unit still offers the capability to tackle rough ground, but features a folding handle and slim profile – ideal for easier storage and transport.

Some of our turntable trolleys feature side panels, which help to secure the load on to the platform. These sides can be fixed, or have the capability to drop down, or have the capability to be removed completely when required - such as with the 450kg Heavy Duty Turntable Truck with Mesh Platform & Removable Sides.

Pneumatic Wheels v Solid Wheels

We have turntable trolleys with pneumatic tyres and models with solid tyres. Some trolleys are available with the choice of either. Generally, pneumatic tyres are great for outdoor use, and rough and uneven ground. While most solid tyres are best for indoor use, in warehouses, factories, workshops & more. Though some models do have solid wheels suitable for rough ground - this will be detailed in the product features.

Wooden Platform v Metal Mesh Platform

Some of our turntable trolleys come with a solid wooden platform, while others come with a metal mesh platform. Trolleys with solid wooden bases are best for indoor use, or for use when transporting loads that include small components which could fall through the metal mesh – like screws and bolts. Metal mesh platforms are best for outdoor use, as any rain water can fall through the platform.

Weight Capacity

Ensure that you choose a turntable trolley with the weight capacity to complete the job. Never try to overload the platform.

Wheel Type

Pneumatic wheels are best for use outdoors, or on rough or uneven surfaces. While solid wheels are great for smooth indoor surfaces, such as warehouses and factories. Some models with solid wheels can be used on rough ground - this will be displayed in the product information. When pneumatic wheels are used, check the tyre pressure matches the pressure indicated on the tyre wall, and that the pressure is equal in all tyres.

Load Distribution

Place the load evenly on the platform. If items are stacked, heavier items should be placed towards the bottom, with lighter items on top.

Load Security

Use straps or bungee cord to secure the load to the trolley. This will help to prevent the load from shifting or falling during transport.

Handling Techniques

Use correct handling techniques. Maintain a straight back when loading or unloading items, and grip the handle bar firmly with both hands when operating the truck. Use appropriate PPE such as toe capped boots, high-vis vest and rigger gloves. Take regular breaks to prevent fatigue and reduce the risk of injury.

Surroundings

Clear any obstacles or tripping hazards on your path before starting to move the trolley. Take extra care when transporting loads on any mild inclines or uneven surfaces.
